The Democratic Republic of Congo offers numerous investment opportunities in the agricultural sector, from production to commercialization, with the goal of creating a competitive value chain in the region.

With exceptional agronomic potential and the largest agricultural land area in Africa, the DRC has the capacity to feed 2 billion people. It boasts over 80 million hectares of arable land, of which less than 10% is currently cultivated.

The diversity of climates and extensive hydrographic networks allow for a wide range of agricultural production. Grasslands and savannahs can support around 40 million head of livestock.

Tropical forests, covering 135 million hectares (52% of the territory), represent a major reserve of biodiversity and exploitable land. Irrigation potential is estimated at 4 million hectares.

Fishing potential, located in the Atlantic Ocean, Congo River and lakes, is estimated at 707,000 tons of fish per year.

The ICT sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo has lacked an updated strategic framework since the last policy document in 2009. Nationally and internationally, the DRC faces challenges related to increasing telecom coverage and ICT penetration.

To address these challenges, the government launched the โ€œNational Digital Plan,โ€ based on four strategic pillars: Infrastructure, Content, Application Use, and Governance โ€“ Regulation.

Priority areas include:

  • Establishing and modernizing infrastructure
  • Extending telecom coverage and digital access
  • Ensuring secure channels and digital content access
  • Digital transformation of administrations and businesses
  • Developing fintech platforms
  • Improving human capital
  • Producing and promoting national content
  • Monitoring technological progress
  • Promoting digital initiatives through public policy
